· India · Indian Express, Times of India

An IPS officer posted at the Delhi Police Headquarters had his Kaka Nagar residence in Lutyens’ Delhi burgled on August 11. The officer left his back door open while leaving for an Independence Day rehearsal at the Red Fort at 5:30 am. Upon returning two-and-a-half hours later, he discovered his home ransacked and several valuables missing, including an iPhone 15 Pro, a OnePlus phone, a diamond ring, and Rs 10,000 in cash. Police identified the suspect as a serial offender named Imran, also known as Sawan, who was arrested near Sarai Kale Khan. Authorities have recovered the stolen items and confirmed that the accused was unaware the house belonged to a police officer when he entered.

Why it matters

The incident highlights security vulnerabilities in high-profile government residential areas, even those with deployed security guards. The arrest of a serial offender in a secure district underscores ongoing challenges in preventing repeat property crimes in the capital.
