Iran Accuses US of Bombing Wedding Party in Sirik, Killing Five

· World · Al Jazeera, News18

Iran has accused the United States of bombing a residence during a wedding celebration in Kuhestak, in the southern county of Sirik, early on Wednesday, killing at least five people including a child. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei called the strike "brutal," while Sirik governor Reza Shahidiyan told state broadcaster IRIB that at least 63 others were wounded, including 50 women and children, all taken to a hospital in Minab in stable condition. A surviving child told Fars news agency that fighter jets flew overhead before the blast hit, saying "everyone was just ordinary civilians." The US military said the strikes targeted Iranian air defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets and communications in retaliation for IRGC attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and on US troops. Further explosions were reported in Konarak, Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, with Iran saying it retaliated militarily. Baghaei also cited earlier US strikes on a Minab elemen

Why it matters

The escalation around the Strait of Hormuz directly threatens global oil shipments and energy prices, with Iran having blockaded the chokepoint since the war began. India, which imports the majority of its crude oil and depends on Gulf shipping lanes, faces acute exposure to any further spike in energy costs and supply disruption.
