Iran and UAE Agree to Put Past Behind, Says President Pezeshkian
· World · Indian Express, Hindustan Times
Iran and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to set aside past differences and look to the future, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced in New Delhi on Sunday. The declaration followed a meeting between Pezeshkian and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the conclusion of the BRICS Summit 2026. Pezeshkian also noted that he held brief exchanges with the presidents of Russia and China regarding a promising outlook for expanding economic cooperation. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that he does not care if Gulf nations meet with Iran, adding that the decisions are entirely up to them. The UAE has not yet issued a formal announcement regarding the agreement. The two nations have previously found themselves on opposing sides during the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Why it matters
A diplomatic alignment between Iran and the UAE could reshape regional security and economic ties in West Asia, directly impacting India's diplomatic and energy interests in the region.
