Iran Loses Trust in US Negotiations Following Previous Sanctions and Attacks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran no longer trusts negotiations with the US following previous rounds of talks that were followed by fresh sanctions and attacks. Pezeshkian made the remarks in an interview aired on Saturday after Iran proposed a seven-day roadmap at the United Nations General Assembly in New York to end the conflict and unblock the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed deal requires Washington to lift naval port blockades, waive oil sale sanctions, release USD 12bn in frozen assets, and observe a regional ceasefire covering Lebanon and Yemen. In return, Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's traded oil and gas passed prior to the conflict. Mediators from Qatar and Pakistan are currently conveying messages between Tehran and Washington as Iran awaits a formal response.
