Iran Threatens Regional Airports Over US Aviation Sanctions

Iran has threatened neighbouring countries with retaliation if they enforce new US sanctions designed to halt international operations by Iranian airlines. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, warned that Tehran would ensure airports in cooperating countries cannot function flights to Iran. The warning follows secondary sanctions announced by the US Department of the Treasury targeting Iran's remaining airlines and foreign intermediaries. Iranian carriers have already cancelled international flights to the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iraq, and Oman. The aviation restrictions come amid ongoing regional tensions following the US-Israel war on Iran that began on February 28.
