Iranian Spies Target UK Dissidents and Journalists With Spyware

British intelligence has issued a warning that Iranian state actors have targeted dissidents, activists, and journalists with spyware designed to track movements and access personal data. The malware, known as Chosen Brick, was deployed by impersonating contacts on messaging apps to trick victims into downloading the software. Discovered jointly by the UK, US, and Netherlands, the spyware grants agents access to contacts, emails, social media messages, microphones, and device screens. The FBI stated that the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security has used the malware since Autumn 2023 to collect intelligence and inflict reputational harm.
