Iraq Investigates Drone Strikes That Closed Saudi Pipeline

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has ordered an investigation and fired the operations commander of Maysan province after determining that drone strikes on a major Saudi pipeline were launched from Iraqi territory. The attacks forced Saudi Arabia to shut its East-West pipeline, a critical conduit for oil exports that had been operating at full capacity. Iraq has also closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran as a precautionary measure. While oil prices remained relatively stable at $105 a barrel, the incident highlights the ongoing regional security threats to energy infrastructure.
