ISL 2026-27: Mumbai City FC misses key forwards in Kochi clash against Kerala Blasters
· Sports · Sportstar, India Today
Mumbai City FC faces Kerala Blasters at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi, on Sunday, October 25, in the Indian Super League 2026-27 opener for both sides. Kerala Blasters seek to extend their 2-1 record against Mumbai in Kochi after their previous 1-4 defeat to NorthEast United FC. Mumbai City, winless under new coach Manolo Marquez after two games, lost 1-2 to Churchill Brothers and drew 1-1 with Odisha. Marquez confirmed that forwards Vikram Partap Singh and Wilmar Jordan Gil are unavailable due to injuries, with Vikram facing a long absence and Gil ruled out for several games. Ashley Westwood, Blasters coach, warned that Mumbai underperforms statistically despite quality foreign players and national-team regulars.
Why it matters
Mumbai City’s injury crisis, missing two key forwards, compounds their winless start and tests their ability to compete against a Kerala Blasters side buoyed by home support and recent tactical changes.
