ISRO to Launch NVS-03 Navigation Satellite on October 30
· Technology · Indian Express
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the navigation satellite NVS-03 on October 30 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan confirmed the clearance following a tentative schedule between October 15 and 20. The satellite will be carried on board the GSLV Mk II, which successfully deployed the EOS-05 earth observation satellite on September 4. ISRO has maintained a cautious launch approach following PSLV rocket failures on May 18, 2025, and January 4, 2026. This cautious approach has also delayed the timeline for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, shifting its first unmanned crew module test to late 2026 or early 2027.
Why it matters
The successful deployment of the NVS-03 satellite is critical for expanding India's indigenous navigation constellation, which supports real-time train tracking and national positioning infrastructure.
