J&K Assembly Autumn Session Starts With Ruckus Over Statehood

The autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Srinagar began with pandemonium as BJP members raised slogans against the Omar Abdullah government. Treasury benches countered the Opposition protest by demanding the restoration of statehood, with CPIM leader M.Y. Tarigami arguing that statehood remains unrestored two years after an elected government took office. Congress and National Conference legislators joined in raising counter-slogans against the BJP during the disruption. Outside the assembly, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma accused the chief minister of failing to deliver on promises.
