J&K gets new Chief Secretary, first from AGMUT cadre
· India · Indian Express
Sajjan Singh Yadav, a 1995-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. He will assume the role on November 1, succeeding the incumbent Atal Dulloo, who is set to retire on October 31. This appointment marks the first time an officer from the AGMUT cadre—which covers Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories—has held the top bureaucratic position in the Union Territory. The order was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs following approval from the competent authority. The outgoing Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, faced recent controversy after opposing a resolution in the Legislative Assembly regarding the restoration of statehood.
Why it matters
The appointment signals a shift in the administrative leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, placing an officer from the joint AGMUT cadre at the helm of the Union Territory's bureaucracy.
