J&K Withdraws 4,812 Books From College Libraries After Screening

The Jammu and Kashmir government has screened 21.81 lakh books in government and private college libraries since July, withdrawing 4,812 books, including 518 banned titles. The books were withdrawn based on "clear and objective criteria" for identifying objectionable material. Around 12.48 lakh books were screened in the Kashmir division and 9.32 lakh in the Jammu division. At least 1,752 books were referred to the Director of Colleges for expert examination. The government stated that the scrutiny process is laborious and may take more time to complete.
