Jagan Mohan Reddy Blocks Niece’s Wedding at Bengaluru Palace Amid Family Dispute
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has refused to permit his niece YS Anjili Reddy’s wedding at the family compound, Yelahanka Palace, in Bengaluru. The ceremony was planned for November 25 by his sister and Andhra Pradesh Congress chief YS Sharmila, whose daughter recently got engaged to US resident Somala Raghurami Reddy. Sharmila’s aide stated that Jagan conveyed his refusal through their mother, YS Vijayamma, citing that the property is registered under his mother-in-law, Bharati Reddy. The decision has forced Sharmila to scramble for an alternative venue after already distributing wedding invitations to political leaders, high command figures, and chief ministers including D K Shivakumar and M K Stalin. The siblings have been locked in a bitter dispute over family properties and shares in Saraswati Power and Industries Ltd for the last five years, with the matter currently pending before the National Company Law Tribunal.
Why it matters
The high-profile property feud between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and YS Sharmila exposes deep rifts within a prominent political dynasty, disrupting logistics for top leaders invited to the ceremony.
