Jaipur Sweet Shops Boycott Zomato Over Commissions and Discounts
· Business · Indian Express
Over 60 prominent sweet shops and restaurants in Jaipur have launched an indefinite boycott of Zomato, citing unethical business practices. The Jaipur Halwai Samiti, representing major brands like Laxmi Misthanar and Bombay Misthanar, claims that platform commissions have risen from zero to 25 percent, making operations financially unsustainable. Merchants also allege that the platform forces unjustified discounts and runs advertising schemes without prior consent. Despite a meeting last month where Zomato reportedly assured a resolution, the Samiti reports no formal acknowledgement or progress on their demands.
Why it matters
The conflict highlights the growing tension between local food businesses and delivery aggregators over high service fees and forced margins. The boycott could impact delivery availability for popular local sweets across the Jaipur region.
