Jaishankar Assures Bihar on Ganga Water Treaty Renewal

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has assured JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha that the government will protect Bihar's water interests during the renewal of the Ganga water sharing treaty with Bangladesh. The 30-year agreement, signed in 1996, is set to expire this year. Jaishankar confirmed that inter-ministerial consultations have been held to address the drinking and industrial water requirements of stakeholders, including Bihar. Jha had previously raised concerns in the Rajya Sabha regarding the impact of the treaty on his state.
