Jaishankar Offers India's Help to End Ukraine War in Kyiv Talks

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv on September 3, 2026, and offered India's support for a diplomatic end to the Russia-Ukraine war, days after PM Narendra Modi called for the war to end during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek on the SCO sidelines. Jaishankar said incidents of attacks on commercial shipping in the Black Sea region were hurting developing economies of the Global South in energy security, agriculture production, and food shortages. He reiterated India's stand against the war, now in its fifth year, and pushed for safety of commercial vessels. On continued Indian purchases of Russian oil, Jaishankar said halting the conflict did not depend on whether a country buys Russian crude, adding it 'will be solved by dialogue, by diplomacy and by negotiation.'
