Jaishankar to Attend G20 and Quad Meets in Atlanta This Week
· World · Times of India, The Hindu
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Atlanta for G20 and Quad foreign ministers’ meetings hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 30–31. This marks the second Quad foreign ministers’ meeting this year after India hosted one in May. The ministers will outline the agenda for the Quad leaders’ summit in Manila next month, likely on November 16. That summit will be the first leaders-level Quad meeting in two years after India could not host it last year amid a downturn in India-U.S. ties. The Manila gathering takes place against the backdrop of heightened maritime tensions between the Philippines and China, and days before President Donald Trump’s expected visit to China for the APEC summit.
Why it matters
The Quad summit in Manila will test the grouping’s cohesion amid South China Sea tensions and signal India-U.S. diplomatic recovery after a year of strain.
