Jaiswal Included, Suryakumar Omitted From Mumbai Ranji Trophy Squad
· Sports · Indian Express, News18
Mumbai has named a 16-member squad for its upcoming Ranji Trophy season opener against Chandigarh, featuring star opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. Teenage prodigy Ayush Mhatre has been appointed vice-captain, while senior batter Siddhesh Lad will lead the side. Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was left out of the squad despite making himself available to the selectors. Senior men's chief selector Rajesh Pawar explained that Suryakumar has not played red-ball cricket in the last one and a half years and needs a few red-ball games before selection. The match is scheduled to take place from October 11 to 15.
Why it matters
The selection decision delays Suryakumar Yadav's return to first-class cricket while offering Yashasvi Jaiswal crucial red-ball match practice. Mumbai aims to strengthen its campaign in Elite Group D with a blend of seasoned campaigners and young talent.
