Jammu & Kashmir Deports 150 Detained Illegal Immigrants
· India · Indian Express, NDTV
The Jammu & Kashmir administration flew 150 detained individuals on an Indian Air Force plane from Srinagar to Bagdogra airport in West Bengal as part of a newly launched crackdown on illegal immigrants. Police authorities identified approximately 500 alleged illegal immigrants across the Union Territory during a special security exercise. The detainees, primarily comprising Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, were shifted to a facility on the outskirts of Srinagar before being transferred. Security officials stated that the first batch will be handed over to the BSF for deportation on October 7, with remaining detainees scheduled to leave in subsequent batches. The operation follows a high-level committee visit on demographic changes set up by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2026.
Why it matters
