Jayaram Donadpati, 21, a sprint medallist from Odisha's Kalahandi district, died in a bike accident near Phulnakhara in Cuttack district on Thursday morning. His teammate Malaya Barik also died from injuries sustained in the same crash. Jayaram was a double Asian U20 and World University Games medallist in the men's 4x100m relay and had recently won the national 4x100m relay title with Odisha, clocking 39.72 seconds. Coach Martin Owens oversaw his training at the High Performance Center in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
