JD(U) Rejects Proposal to Rename Nitish Kumar's Birthplace
· India · Times of India, Indian Express
The JD(U) has distanced itself from a proposal by alliance partner Hindustani Awam Morcha to rename Bakhtiyarpur as Nitishpur. HAM president Santosh Kumar Suman suggested the change to honor the birthplace of Bihar's former chief minister, Nitish Kumar. JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha stated that Kumar has never supported renaming places and prefers to let his work speak for itself. Jha also noted that renaming the town would not alter its history, including the invasion by Bakhtiyar Khilji.
Why it matters
The rejection highlights a strategic effort by the JD(U) to maintain a focus on development-oriented governance rather than symbolic renaming exercises within the NDA alliance.
