Jharkhand CID Arrests Former JPSC Chairperson Over Recruitment Irregularities

The Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department on August 10, 2026, arrested former Jharkhand Public Service Commission chairperson L. Khiangte in Ranchi in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Mr. Khiangte, who retired as the state's chief secretary before being appointed to head the agency in February 2025, had tendered his resignation on July 22 after facing questioning four times. The arrest follows the resignation of all three JPSC members amid massive protests by aspirants over recruitment test irregularities. With this arrest, the total number of people arrested by the CID in the case has reached 20. Mr. Khiangte stated that he voluntarily resigned to ensure an impartial investigation, while the Enforcement Directorate has also initiated a separate probe into the case.
