Jio IPO delivers smaller banker payday than other mega offerings in Indian market
· Business · Economic Times, Bloomberg
Mukesh Ambani-backed Jio Platforms raised ₹30,213 crore, marking India's largest IPO ever, but paid investment bankers just ₹196 crore in fees — only 0.65% of the issue size. In contrast, Hyundai Motor India raised ₹27,859 crore and paid 1.77% in fees, while the NSE IPO of ₹22,563 crore paid 0.83%. Jio appointed 19 bankers for the issue, which opened fully subscribed within 100 minutes and closed with over 22 times subscription. Shares are scheduled to list on Wednesday.
Why it matters
Investment bankers earn significantly lower fees on Jio's record-breaking IPO compared to other large Indian offerings, reflecting how intense competition among banks on mega deals compresses fee percentages despite the massive deal sizes.
