Just Eat Apologises After AI-Generated Food Images Produce Bizarre Menu Errors
· Technology · BBC News
Online food delivery platform Just Eat has apologised and halted its trial of AI-generated menu images after the technology produced a series of bizarre and incorrect food representations. The feature, intended to showcase items without official photos, resulted in creations such as bacon and eggs floating in a glass of cola due to a mix-up between soda and soda bread, alongside chips poking out of muffins. A Belfast cafe was among those affected when its bacon and egg soda bread dish was depicted as a fizzy drink containing floating meat and eggs. Other menu errors included garlic bread shaped like an aeroplane following a misspelling of the word plain, and a cheese roll transformed into sushi-style cheese slabs. A Just Eat spokesperson stated the company is removing the incorrect images and will not generate new ones until the technology is further developed, while noting that the platform funds professional local photographers for thousands of small restaurants.
Why it matters
