Justice Sheel Nagu Recuses From Punjab CBI Probe Plea in Supreme Court
· India · Hindustan Times, Times of India
Supreme Court judge Justice Sheel Nagu recused himself on Friday from hearing the Punjab government's challenge against a High Court order. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to register a criminal case regarding corruption linked to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's office. Justice Dipankar Datta remarked during the hearing that judges face difficult times and must withdraw when previous dealings are raised. The matter pertains to a 251-page FIR registered by the CBI naming the Chief Minister's officer on special duty, Rajbir Singh Ghuman, alongside five others. The Supreme Court indicated that the case file would be reassigned to another bench for further proceedings.
Why it matters
The recusal delays the legal challenge brought by the Punjab government against a corruption inquiry targeting officials tied to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's administration.
