· India · The Hindu, Indian Express

Delhi police arrested 52‑year‑old sanitation worker Nihal of Trilokpuri on Monday for stabbing 27‑year‑old Anil Kumar, a fellow sanitation worker, in Kalyanpuri on Sunday. CCTV footage shows Nihal, who was intoxicated, entering a yellow T‑shirted man’s vehicle and stabbing Anil repeatedly before fleeing. Anil was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where he later died. At least 1,000 sanitation workers and auto‑tipper drivers gathered outside the hospital demanding ₹1 crore in compensation for the family, a permanent MCD job for a relative, and action against Metro Waste Handling Pvt. Ltd. Police deployed at least 200 Central Reserve Police Force personnel to the hospital to manage the protest.

Why it matters

The killing and ensuing protest highlight safety concerns for frontline sanitation staff and pressure local authorities to address workplace security and compensation, directly affecting the livelihoods of thousands of municipal workers in Delhi.
