Karan Johar announces August 11, 2028 release for R&AW founder biopic

Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced that his film on Rameshwar Nath Kao, founder of India's external intelligence agency R&AW, will release in cinemas on August 11, 2028. The project, first announced in January 2020, is based on Nitin Gokhale's book "Gentleman Spymaster". Johar described Kao as "The Man, The Myth, The Legend" and highlighted his role in India's 1971 War victory against Pakistan. The film will focus on R&AW's formation, Kao's organisation-building efforts, and its first mission. Kao served as R&AW's founding Secretary from 1968 to 1977 after appointment by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Cast and director details remain unannounced more than eight years after the initial project announcement.
