Karnataka Cabinet Approves Sustainable Data Centre Policy

The Karnataka Cabinet approved the Sustainable Data Centre Policy 2026–2031, aiming to establish the state as a global hub for next-generation digital infrastructure. The policy targets 1 GW of IT load by 2031 and seeks to account for 10–12% of India’s AI-ready data centre capacity. Key features include investment facilitation, sustainability through renewable energy and advanced cooling, and the establishment of Sustainable Data Centre Zones. Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge highlighted the policy as a 'course correction' to ensure responsible growth. Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society will oversee implementation, with Karnataka Udyoga Mitra handling single-window clearances.
