Karnataka CM Considers Shutting Down KPSC Legally

Karnataka chief minister D K Shivakumar said on September 22 that the state is examining whether the Karnataka Public Service Commission can be shut down within the legal framework, following the high court's order for a fresh investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of 400 veterinary officers. The Karnataka high court constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team headed by IPS officer Alok Kumar to conduct a de novo probe within 100 days, with progress reports every 30 days, while declining a CBI probe. Shivakumar welcomed the SIT but objected that the state was not given freedom to appoint investigators, and said he would seek legal expert opinion on the matter. The Enforcement Directorate is separately investigating the alleged financial aspects, and the CID must hand over all records to the SIT.
