Karnataka CM to Review Kasturirangan Report Survey Demands

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that the state government will discuss the demand for a physical survey of Western Ghats areas covered by the Kasturirangan report. Speaking in Hebri, Udupi district, Shivakumar stated that the government intends to understand local concerns before finalizing its position for the Centre. The Kasturirangan Committee previously recommended declaring 37 per cent of the Western Ghats as an Eco-Sensitive Area. The state government plans to address the issue during a three-day special Assembly session starting soon, where it will also consider a proposal for a uniform 25-year limit under the Forest Rights Act.
