Karnataka Congress MLA Yashvantharayagouda Patil has resigned from the Assembly for the second time in two months, alleging a delay in declaring Indi and Chadachan taluks in Vijayapura district drought-hit. The Speaker rejected his resignation letter dated September 22 on technical grounds, as had happened previously in August when Patil quit over missing a Cabinet berth. Chief Minister D K Shivakumar called it an emotional decision taken considering farmer welfare, while Opposition leader R Ashoka used the issue to target the government over drought inaction. Revenue Minister G Parameshwara countered that the state had written to the Centre ten times seeking relaxed norms for declaring taluks drought-affected.
