· India · Hindustan Times, Indian Express

Karnataka is considering extending artificial intelligence training in government schools down to Class 6, with Chief Minister D K Shivakumar directing officials to collaborate with the Information Technology department and private companies. AI training has already commenced for Class 9 students across government schools in the state. Google has expressed interest in supporting the training initiative, prompting officials to study the company's existing projects in Telangana before finalising a framework for Karnataka. Additionally, the Chief Minister has instructed authorities to identify suitable land for the establishment of a dedicated AI university in the state. The administration is also preparing to recruit 956 teachers on an outsourcing basis to bolster staffing levels.

Why it matters

Students in Karnataka government schools from Class 6 upward will gain early exposure to artificial intelligence, potentially bridging the digital education gap between public and private institutions.
