Karnataka Deputy CM Parameshwara Tours Drought-Hit Mysuru Villages

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara visited Kanchugaran Koppalu village in K.R. Nagar taluk of Mysuru district on Tuesday to assess the impact of deficient rainfall on farmers. Officials told him that crops including ragi, maize and tobacco had withered at the germination stage due to the rain shortfall, leaving farmers in severe distress. Parameshwara promised state assistance and said a comprehensive crop loss report would be sent to the Centre to seek higher compensation under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). He also urged the Centre to relax NDRF norms so more affected taluks can be brought under relief, and warned microfinance institutions against harassing drought-hit farmers for loan recovery. K.R. Nagar MLA D. Ravishankar accompanied him during the visit.
