Karnataka Government Excludes Linguistic Minority Schools From Teacher Recruitment Drive

The Karnataka government issued an order on August 10 to recruit 15,000 teachers, but the drive is primarily limited to government Kannada and English medium schools. Lawmakers and job aspirants have raised objections because the recruitment ignores over 5,000 vacant teaching posts across linguistic minority institutions in the State. The state has 3,947 Urdu medium schools serving about 2,73,573 students, alongside 881 Marathi medium schools, 53 Tamil medium schools, 53 Telugu medium schools, and five Hindi medium schools. Members of the Legislative Council Balkis Banu and Abdul Jabbar highlighted the issue during the ongoing legislative session, pointing out that districts with many linguistic minority schools also suffer from poor infrastructure and backwardness. Job aspirants met with Minority Affairs Minister U.T. Khader and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rizwan Arshad to voice their concerns over years of waiting for recruitment.
