Karnataka Hand Over Fake Drug Racket Case to SIT

The Karnataka government has ordered a special investigation team (SIT) probe into an interstate fake drug racket involving the repackaging and relabelling of medicines under reputed multinational brand names. The six-member team will be headed by C Vamshikrishna, joint commissioner of police, West, Bengaluru city. The decision follows a raid conducted by the Drug Enforcement Wing of the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration department at an unauthorised pharmaceutical facility in Kurubarakeranahalli near Bidadi in Bengaluru South. Authorities have already arrested four individuals in connection with the operation, while investigators suspect the alleged kingpin is currently hiding abroad. The SIT has been tasked with examining the network's financial transactions, supply chain, and the individuals involved in manufacturing and distributing the counterfeit medicines.
