· India · The Hindu, Indian Express, News18
The High Court of Karnataka has declined anticipatory bail to Shivashankarappa S. Sahukar, the suspended Chairperson of the Karnataka Public Service Commission, in a criminal case regarding alleged irregularities in selecting 400 veterinary officers for the Animal Husbandry Department. Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty dismissed the petition after the Sessions Court had previously rejected Mr. Sahukar's plea on August 11. The Sessions Court noted that the allegations involve sensitive matters of significant public interest and that the investigating agency requires custodial interrogation. Mr. Sahukar and other KPSC members face grave accusations concerning the recruitment process.
Why it matters
The High Court's refusal of anticipatory bail allows investigators to proceed with custodial interrogation in a high-profile public recruitment scam.
