Karnataka HC Orders Fresh Probe Into Kharge Family Trust Land
· India · The Hindu, News18, Indian Express
The High Court of Karnataka has directed a special court to reconsider its decision to conduct an internal inquiry into allegations of illegal land allotment to a trust linked to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s family. The special court had previously opted to investigate the matter itself under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) after rejecting a plea for a Lokayukta police probe due to a technical defect in the complainant's affidavit. Justice M. Nagaprasanna ruled that the affidavit's infirmity was a curable defect and instructed the lower court to allow the complainant to rectify it. The complaint involves an 8,002 sq. m. civic amenity site in BTM 4th Stage, Bengaluru, which was allotted to the Siddartha Vihar Trust in 2010. The trust is associated with Mr. Kharge, his wife, and his sons, including Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge.
Why it matters
The court's decision mandates a formal investigation into the land allotment, potentially impacting the legal standing of the trust and the involved political figures.
