Karnataka Health Minister Calls for SIT to Probe Spurious Drug Ring

Karnataka Health Minister U.T. Khader has proposed a Special Investigation Team to probe an inter‑state network of spurious medicines. The team will investigate a farmhouse near Bidadi, where an unlicensed repacking facility supplied medicines worth ₹4.91 crore, sourced from Himachal Pradesh, Telangana and other states. Drugs were rebranded with major company names and sold to hospitals at nearly 50% lower prices, with some intended for intensive‑care use. The SIT will include two police officials and two FSDA officials, trace the supply chain and financial trail, and identify manufacturers, middlemen, pharmacies and hospitals involved. Khader has spoken to Home Minister Priyank Kharge and will discuss the plan with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
