Karnataka High Court Lifts Travel Restriction on Minister B. Nagendra

The High Court of Karnataka has permitted Minister for Planning and Statistics B. Nagendra to travel across India without seeking prior permission from the trial court. Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the order while modifying bail conditions imposed in 2024 during a money laundering case. The Directorate of Enforcement had booked the case regarding the alleged misappropriation of over ₹89 crore from the State-run Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd. Mr. Nagendra had resigned from the Cabinet in June 2024 following the allegations before being arrested. After assuming his current ministerial post in June under Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, he petitioned the court to ease travel restrictions that hindered his official duties.
Why it matters
The ruling enables a sitting Karnataka minister to travel nationally for official duties without court intervention, though international travel still requires prior judicial approval.
