Karnataka High Court Quashes Chargesheet Against Kodagu Homestay Owner

The Karnataka High Court quashed the chargesheet against a Kodagu homestay owner accused of failing to report the alleged sexual assault of a US national and violating provisions of the Foreigners Act. Justice M Nagaprasanna allowed the petition after defence advocates presented CCTV footage proving the owner was absent from the premises when the April incident occurred. The case began following a complaint filed by a 33-year-old US national through the US Embassy, which led police to book the owner alongside two other men and a taxi driver. The two primary accused remain in judicial custody. The High Court previously declared the homestay owner's arrest illegal on July 15 and directed the Karnataka Government to pay him Rs 5 lakh in compensation.
