Karnataka High Court Raps Suspended KPSC Chief Over Recruitment Scam

· India · Indian Express, The Hindu

The Karnataka High Court rebuked suspended KPSC chairman Sahukar S Shivashankarappa while hearing his anticipatory bail application in a veterinarian recruitment scam case on Thursday. Justice S Vishwajith Shetty expressed concern over the integrity of future administrators recruited through the commission after noting Shivashankarappa suppressed material regarding his daughter's job acquisition. Shivashankarappa faces a CID investigation and cheating charges under the Karnataka Public Examination Act following a complaint by a veterinarian alleging that entrance exam questions were leaked to 28 candidates for 400 posts. The suspended chairman approached the High Court after a Bengaluru special court rejected his anticipatory bail plea last month. Public Prosecutor B N Jagadeesha submitted that investigators are withholding certain details while the probe remains ongoing.

Why it matters

The case exposes severe integrity vulnerabilities in public service recruitment processes, directly impacting public trust in government administrative appointments.
