Karnataka hikes bus fares by up to ₹9, BMTC and Vayu Vajra services cost more
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu, News18
Karnataka has raised state-run bus fares by up to ₹9 due to rising diesel prices, effective November 4, 2026, as confirmed by transport minister Byrathi Suresh. In Bengaluru, the minimum city bus fare increased from ₹6 to ₹10, and the maximum BMTC bus fare rose from ₹35 to ₹45, while AC Vajra buses now charge ₹90 instead of ₹75. The maximum fare for Vayu Vajra services connecting Bengaluru to the airport has also increased from ₹405 to ₹425. The minister defended the hike, stating Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have similarly revised bus fares, and emphasized that the increase aims to sustain institutions like KSRTC and BMTC rather than generate profit.
Why it matters
Daily commuters in Bengaluru and other Karnataka cities will face higher travel costs, directly impacting household budgets and public transport affordability.
