Karnataka Launches QR Code System for Food Safety Complaints

Karnataka Health Minister U T Khader has introduced a QR code-based system allowing the public to report food and drug safety violations directly to the state administration. The initiative aims to expand inspection coverage to include hostels, educational institutions, railway canteens, and flight catering services across the state. Officials have already inspected 63 high-end hotels, eight warehouses, and several multinational restaurant chains, including McDonald's, KFC, and Domino's. The government plans to supplement this digital reporting tool with a dedicated call centre and a toll-free number to facilitate rapid field responses. Minister Khader stated that the primary goal of these inspections is to educate business operators on compliance rather than immediate punitive action.
