Karnataka Man Arrested After Faking Death For 11 Years
· India · Indian Express, Times of India, The Hindu
Kolar police have arrested 36-year-old Arun Kumar Reddy in Chennai, ending an 11-year deception where he was presumed dead. In 2015, Reddy staged his own death by burning an unidentified corpse and leaving his personal documents, including an Aadhaar card, at the scene in Karnataka’s Kolar district to escape mounting debts. Although police initially registered a murder case, they later discovered Reddy was alive and arrested him for creating false evidence, but he disappeared after securing bail. Reddy reportedly admitted that he was inspired by crime films like Drishyam to orchestrate the elaborate ruse. He had also intended to claim insurance proceeds as part of his plan to evade his creditors.
