Karnataka MLA's Niece Removed From Namma Clinic Job
· India · The Hindu, NDTV
The Karnataka government has terminated the contract of Ankita Yaragal, a doctor at a Namma Clinic in Wambe Colony, Bagalkot, following reports that she was simultaneously enrolled as a full-time post-graduate medical student. Ankita Yaragal, who is the daughter of District Health Officer Rajkumar Yaragal and the niece of Congress MLA Umesh Meti, had been serving on a contract basis since April 2025. A preliminary report by the zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer recommended her removal after local activist Raju Naik alleged she failed to resign upon starting her MD course in pathology. While an inquiry was scheduled for September 15, she did not attend and has been issued a new notice for September 18. Rajkumar Yaragal stated that he had instructed the taluk health officer to relieve her from duty and claimed he had not released her salary.
Why it matters
The case highlights concerns regarding the management of public health contracts and potential nepotism in government appointments within Karnataka's healthcare system.
