Karnataka School Education Minister Promises Decision on Mid-Day Meal Funds
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times, NDTV
Karnataka School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced in the Legislative Council on August 17, 2026, that the government will decide on increasing mid-day meal funds for eggs after discussions with the Finance Department. Responding to a question from Congress member Ramoji Gowda in Bengaluru, the Minister acknowledged that fluctuating market prices ranging between ₹5.33 and ₹5.93 per egg have created supply challenges. While lawmakers pointed out that market prices exceed the ₹6 government allocation, the Minister noted that varying student consumption habits help teachers manage supplies. Additionally, the Minister stated that the delayed distribution of 14 lakh pairs of school shoes and socks will be completed by August 28, backed by penalty clauses for suppliers.
Why it matters
