Karnataka Seizes Expired Sweets, Shuts Six Units in Statewide Food Safety Drive

Karnataka's food safety authorities conducted a statewide crackdown on sweet manufacturers on Monday, seizing expired and mislabelled products and temporarily shutting six units across Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, the Greater Bengaluru Authority, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Hubballi-Dharwad. The drive was ordered by Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader and carried out under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Inspectors collected samples of khoya, jalebi, Mysore Pak, tea powder, pulses, cooking oil and other items, sending them to government laboratories for testing. Major seizures included around 49 kg of tea powder and 20 kg of Kalakand from Asha Sweets in Yeshwanthpur, while Bikaner Sweets on Magadi Road was temporarily shut for unhygienic conditions and labelling deficiencies. Officials flagged violations such as expired products on sale, unauthorised artificial colours, missing FSSAI licence numbers, and absent Use By dates on packaging.
