Karnataka to Re-Verify Gruha Lakshmi Beneficiaries via Biometric Checks
· India · India Today, The Hindu
The Karnataka government will initiate a month-long re-verification drive for all Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries starting August 30 in Bengaluru. The door-to-door exercise uses biometric and facial authentication to weed out ineligible recipients following reports of deaths, migration, and tax status changes. Officials will collect data via a web and mobile application developed by the Directorate of Electronic Delivery of Citizens Services. The project operates with a grant limit of Rs 20 crore under the supervision of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and the Department of Women and Child Development.
Why it matters
The biometric audit ensures welfare funds under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme reach only eligible residents by eliminating fraudulent claims.
