Kashmiri Filmmaker Arfat Sheikh Detained by ICE at Washington Airport

Kashmiri filmmaker Arfat Sheikh was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents upon arriving at Washington Dulles airport on 24 September. Sheikh, the director of the award-winning film Saffron Kingdom, was en route to speak at an "Art as Resistance" panel discussion in Washington, DC. Supporters stated that ICE agents surrounded and detained him without a warrant even as he presented his immigration paperwork. The 42-year-old filmmaker is currently being held at the Caroline Detention Facility in Virginia ahead of an immigration bond hearing. Sheikh entered the United States legally on a student visa.
