Kashmiri-born filmmaker Sheikh Arfat was released on Thursday after spending 14 days in U.S. detention following his arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on September 24. A U.S.-based advocacy group reported that a bond was granted on the morning of October 6, but his release was delayed due to a malfunctioning payment portal at the Caroline Detention Center in Bowling Green, Virginia. The 42-year-old director, known for his movie Saffron Kingdom, shifted to the U.S. legally on a student visa to study film at Georgia State University. He was en route to Washington, D.C., for an event when he was detained at an airport. Mr. Arfat is scheduled to face another immigration hearing on October 27.
